Chula Vista police complete citywide registered sex offender audit

Detective from Chula Vista Police Department File photo courtesy of CVPD Over law enforcement officers came together this week to perform a citywide audit of registered sexual offenders in Chula Vista Detectives from the Chula Vista Police Department s Criminal Investigations Division conducted the audit along with members of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the U S Marshals Institution including the San Diego Fugitive Task Force California categorizes offenders into three tiers based upon their peril level Tier represents the lowest liability to the citizens and tiers and progressively higher exposure Out of the people registered as sex offenders in Chula Vista a city of nearly people are categorized under tiers and Due to this multi-agency effort administrators were able to conduct home visits on Thursday at all listed addresses for tiers and registered sex offenders at one time Detectives are regularly assigned to verify offender s compliance with state law to ensure that they re providing up-to-date and accurate information regarding their residence phone numbers vehicles and employment The Chula Vista Police Department will seek arrest warrants for those ascertained to be out of compliance Among the residences visited from a m to noon compliance checks were completed with pending an additional visit Of those completed registrants were verified as being in compliance and eight are still being evaluated by detectives Members of the residents are encouraged to visit the California Department of Justice s Megan s Law website for more information about sex offenders in their area
